Swimming And Diving Dominate Buffalo

The Ohio swimming and diving team (2-0, 2-0) swept Buffalo in nine of 13 events with a score of 143-89 Saturday, Nov. 2, in a Mid-American Conference dual meet.

Ohio’s victory comes just days after former head coach Greg Werner was sacked, replaced by assistant Derick Roe.

The win was earned in part by Ohio’s domination in the 200-yard individual medley. Senior Rachel Stearns competed strong in another big meet for the Bobcats, winning the 200 IM with a time of 2:07.96 and conquering the 200-yard backstroke clocking at 2:04.17.

Junior Michelle Gasior came in first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.09 while freshman Carrie Dukes placed third, finishing at 2:08.49.

Sophomore Bianca Hauzer took first in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:06.95.

The ‘Cats took three out of four spots in the 100-yard freestyle, as sophomore Haley Clark placed second with a time of 52.44, placing second was sophomore Casey Papp at 53.35 and freshman Josephine Barker finished fourth, clocking at 53.54.

Standout Barker also placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.92, while Clark dominated in the 50-yard freestyle finished in second place with a time of 23.98. Junior Tori Bagan took third, finishing at 24.27.

Bagan also finished second in the breaststroke with a time at 2:22.88. Freshman Hannah Shinn recorded a time at 2:27.92 to place fourth, while sophomore, Ariel Hodgens finished just after Shinn with a score of 2:31.19.

On the boards, Ohio grabbed the top four spots in the 3-meter dive, Haleigh Bartlett finishing first and Morgan Srail second. Kristin Capick took the third spot on the podium. With their performances, Bartlett, Srail and Capick qualified for the NCAA Zone Championships.

Capick took the top spot in the 1-meter dive followed immediately by MaryRose Hillstrom.

Ohio will meet two non-conference teams next week. The ‘Cats will host Marshall Friday at the Aquatic Center at 5 p.m. and will travel to Ohio State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
