Meigs Powers Past Minford
< < Back toAlthough the Minford Falcons appeared to be the bigger, stronger team on paper, the Meigs Marauders weren’t going down without a fight, especially with Mike Chancey’s 100th win on the line.
After a sluggish start, the Marauders were able to blow past the Falcons for a 35-7 victory with a strong defensive effort that held the Falcons to just 133 total yards. It appeared as if the Falcons would be in control of the game early, as they marched down the field on an impressive opening drive capped by a 10-yard touchdown run by Tyler Gaines. After a stop, Minford was heading toward another score until the Marauders got the spark they needed in the form of an interception by Blake Crowe. Taking advantage of the short field, the Marauders capped the scoring drive with a one-yard touchdown by Charlie Barnet with two seconds in the first.
In the second quarter, Meigs would dominate, causing the Falcons to make multiple mistakes. Botched snaps and penalties gave Meigs good field position, which they took advantage of as Dyllon Boyer beat the Minford defense adding two touchdown passes making it 21-7 going into halftime. Boyer ended the game with just four completions for 85 yards but made the most of his opportunities.
In the second half, the game became a defensive struggle with Meigs looking to find a way to put the game away. They got another break when the Falcons fumbled a punt that put Meigs inside the Minford 10 yard line. On fourth and one from the one yard line, Boyer sneaked into the end zone securing the victory for the Marauders.
Meigs will look to continue their winning ways next week against Southern. Minford will try to rebound when they travel to Oak Hill.
