Patriots Make it Two in a Row Against Out of State Opponents
< < Back toCloudy skies and a chilly night set the scene for a matchup between the Parkersburg South Patriots, and the Warren Warriors. Parkersburg started out the game driving the ball down the field. With 9:28 left in the quarter Parkesburg’s Jessiah Fickiesen ran in from 35 yards out giving the patriots a 7-0 lead. It wasn’t until later in the first quarter that Warren would see the end zone. As Parkersburg South was preparing to score again, Warren recovered a fumble on their own 17 yard line and ran in to put the Warriors on the board.
The second quarter was all about smash mouth football, both teams running the ball consistently trying to use as much of the game clock as possible. A big gain on a punt return by Warren’s Jeremy Hastie gave the Warriors great field position, but they failed to convert and score. Parkersburg’s Defense shined in the second quarter stopping Warren twice in the red zone. The quarter would end at 7-7.
As the wind started to die down, and the second half began it appeared both teams struggled trying to get the momentum on their side. Warren and Parkersburg South were playing the same style of offense they were in the first half. The game was coming to a close and both teams were still tied at 7-7, which meant this game was to be decided in overtime. One overtime wasn’t enough for these two teams, as the game went on into a second overtime. Parkersburg finally ended this hard fought matchup with a 30 yard field goal by Issac Boles.
The final score was Parkersburg 10, Warren 7. Next week, Parkersburg South will take on Parkersburg High School as Warren will travel to Logan High School.
