Due to rain and thunderstorms in Huntington, W.V., the Ohio baseball game against Marshall University was rained out and resulted in neither a loss nor win for either team. The rain delay lasted one hour and thirty-five minutes before the game was called. There is no word yet about rescheduling.

The game lasted through four and a half innings, and Ohio was up 2-0. A Jake Madsen RBI single got Ohio on the board in the first. Tyler Wells had a double in the top of the fifth, advanced to third on a wild pitch and then was brought home by an RBI single by Dan Schmidt. Ohio had four hits compared to Marshall’s two. The Thundering Herd also had three errors, while the Bobcats recorded no errors before the game was called.

Tyler Backstrom pitched 4.1 innings for Ohio, allowing two hits and no runs. He also had one strikeout. Ryan Hopkins started for Marshall, pitching two innings, giving up two hits, and a run, with two strikeouts. Kolin Stanley, Terrence Moore and Joe McGillicuddy also saw time on the mound for the Herd. McGillicuddy gave up the run in the fifth.

Madsen went 1-2 on the day with one RBI, and his hitting streak would have improved to 22 straight games, but the game and all the stats officially do not count.

The Bobcats will stay on the road this weekend but go back to conference play with a weekend series in Dekalb, Illinois against Nothern Illinois.
