An Athens County non-profit rescue organization should be able to return to its normal operations after reaching a compromise with the Athens County Commissioners Tuesday afternoon.

Friends of the Shelter Dogs, which places dogs with no-kill rescue groups and foster homes, sought financial help from the county to cover the cost of a required state dog tag fee.

Until Recently, Friends of the Shelter Dogs wasn't paying county fees for many of the dogs they rescued.

The county auditor wanted the group to pay $14 per dog, but today's compromise will require the organization to now pay just $3 for each dog it rescues from the Athens County Dog Shelter.
