The Humble Play: New Play Festival of Appalachian Ohio is returning to ARTS/West Thursday, Oct. 4 through Saturday, Oct. 6.

Now in its seventh year, Humble Play promotes the art of play writing while introducing the process of new play development to an audience. This is achieved by inviting playwrights to submit their plays to a committee of judges.

The judges choose plays to be produced as staged readings for the general public as a once a year, three-day festival. All of the readings are produced by the Corporation for the Performing Arts.

Each selected play will be presented as a staged reading. A reading is defined as actors presenting words of a script, using scripts-in-hand.

Each reading will be kept extremely simple so that the playwright's words can be the focus of the event. All readings will be followed by a moderated talk back session where audience members are invited to give their feed-back on the plays.

All events are free and open to the public and begin at 7 p.m. each evening. Some subject matter may not be suitable for all ages. Donations to the festival are encouraged.

Humble Play schedule:

Oct. 4 – Lecture about new play development given by mentor playwright Y. York from Cincinnati, Ohio, followed by staged reading of Flowers in the Desert by Donna Hoke from East Amherst, N.Y.

Oct. 5 – Staged reading of Dream of Perfect Sleep by Kevin Kautzman from Austin, Tx.

Oct. 6 – Staged reading of Empires of Eternal Void by Kenley Smith from Bent Mountain, Va.
