The man who held three women captive in his Cleveland home for a decade has been moved to another state prison.

A prison spokeswoman said Thursday that 53-year-old Ariel Castro was moved out of the Lorain Correctional Institution southwest of Cleveland. He was transferred Monday to the Correctional Reception Center in Orient south of Columbus.

He is being held in protective custody, which is typical for high-profile inmates who may be targeted by other prisoners.

Castro was sentenced last week to life in prison plus 1,000 years on his guilty plea to 937 counts including kidnapping and rape.

The women escaped May 6 when one kicked out part of a door and yelled for help. The house was demolished Wednesday.
