Rio Garners NAIA No. 1 Ranking

The top NAIA ranking was in order for the Rio Grande RedStorm after former No. 1 Lindsey Wilson fell at the hands of D-II Flagler (Fla.), its second loss of the season.

This is Rio’s 40th No. 1 ranking in the team’s history. The RedStorm were last ranked No. 1 on October 23, 2012.

The RedStorm find themselves among the tops in the NAIA in several categories, including: total goals (third, 56), assists (second, 45), shutouts (third, eight), shots per game (third, 21.4)

Luiz Filho leads the squad with an NAIA-best 20 goals on the season.

The RedStorm’s only loss on the season came at the hands of Belhaven at the Indiana Wesleyan University tournament. Their two draws were both on the road, one at now No. 3 Lindsey Wilson, and the other at Campbellsville University.

Rio Grande has two conference games remaining before starting first round Mid-South Conference Tournament action Saturday, Nov. 9.
