The Ohio University track and field team traveled up 33 West to Columbus, Ohio, for the Buckeye Tune-up Friday. The meet was the last chance for Ohio’s athletes to earn trips to next weekend’s MAC Indoor Championships in Kent.

The Bobcats had a great outing, using a team effort to score 84 points and take third place out of 15 teams in the meet. Austin Peay (122) finished in second place, while Ohio State dominated the meet with 242 points.

Sophomore Donyelle Brown improved on a subpar performance in the previous weekend, crushing her personal best in the weight throw and setting a new school record as well (18.33m).

Brown had already broken the school record this season with a throw of 17.83m, set in January at the Tom Wright Classic in Bowling Green, Ohio.

Freshman Taylor Smith will represent Ohio in the MAC Championships after scoring a high jump of 1.68m. She will be joined by Chanda Cuckler, who has been set to compete in the championships for quite some time.

Cuckler earned five points for Ohio on Friday with a fourth-place finish in the long jump (5.51). Freshman Olivia Mayfield finished sixth (5.40m) to earn three points, while sophomore Erika Armstead was eighth (5.23m).

In addition to Friday’s qualifiers, other Ohio student-athletes that will represent the Green and White at MAC Indoor Championships include seniors Melissa Thompson, who will compete in the mile, and Juli Accurso, competing in the 3,000m.

The MAC Indoors begins on Feb. 28 and run through March 3.
