West Virginia State Treasurer John Perdue's office is using newspaper inserts this month in an attempt to locate people with unclaimed property.

The office is placing the inserts in the largest newspaper in each county starting Thursday. The insert contains 13,000 names representing assets worth at least $50. None of the names have been advertised before.

Examples of unclaimed property include forgotten utility deposits, a final paycheck from an employer or unredeemed stock dividends.

Residents who see their name in the bulletin can go to www.wvtreasury.com to find out how to claim the property.
