Student Charged With Filing False Report
< < Back toOhio University Police Department Press Release – The Ohio University Police Department (OUPD) this morning charged Karsten Vullemot, 19, of Mansfield, OH with Making A False Alarm after he confessed that the strong arm robbery he reported to police on Sunday did not occur.
As a result of further investigation by OUPD, Vullemot admitted that he manufactured the robbery story to conceal the fact that he had lost his wallet at a party. The wallet was subsequently returned to Vullemot intact, with nothing missing, after the person who found it located Vullemot on social media.
Vullemot originally reported to OUPD that he had been assaulted and robbed by a group of six (6) white males while walking home across South Green during the early hours of September 21. The report resulted in OUPD issuing a Campus Crime Alert on September 22.
Making A False Alarm is a first-degree misdemeanor, carrying a possible maximum penalty of six (6) months in jail and $1000 fine. Vullemot is scheduled to appear in Athens Municipal Court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
