BUCKEYE LAKE, Ohio (AP) – A central Ohio lawmaker says more businesses near Buckeye Lake will have to submit proof of significant revenue losses before the state can apply for an economic disaster declaration as a step toward possible federal aid.

Many owners in the area anticipated big hits to tourism, restaurants and other businesses because the water has been lowered while a deteriorated dam is replaced.

Sen. Jay Hottinger tells The Advocate newspaper in Newark that three businesses have completed worksheets showing a revenue loss of more than 50 percent since April 20. He says at least two more businesses must do so for the governor to apply for the declaration.

Hottinger says participation by even more businesses could help officials strengthen their case. The deadline for the worksheets is July 24.
