COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The U.S. Department of Justice is giving the state of Ohio nearly $1.3 million to help stem the manufacturing of methamphetamine and related crime.

The grant announced Monday and going to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will help investigate activities related to the manufacture and distribution of the illicit street drug.

The Justice Department says Ohio is getting a chunk of the $6.1 million in grant money through the COPS Anti-Methamphetamine Program because of the state’s high seizures of precursor chemicals, finished methamphetamine and labs.

Also receiving grants were state-level law enforcement agencies in Tennessee, California, Iowa, Missouri, New Mexico and New York.
