COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — A measure that’s cleared the Ohio Legislature would let schools and camps keep a supply of asthma inhalers, not prescribed to specific patients, in case of emergencies.

The House signed off on Senate changes on Wednesday, sending the bill to the governor for his signature.

Schools or camps would have to adopt a policy to govern the use of the inhalers, including where the medication would be stored and who could administer it. Under the bill, a licensed school nurse or athletic trainer could access and use an inhaler.

The bill encourages a school to maintain at least two inhalers, but that’s not required.

The proposal also would permit drug manufacturers to donate inhalers to schools and would allow a school or camp to receive financial donations to buy inhalers.
