COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Residents across much of Ohio will get their first look at one of the Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate during Tuesday’s presidential debate.

Cincinnati councilman P.G. Sittenfeld has bought the first TV ads of the 2016 Senate campaign in Ohio. The medium-sized buy airs in the Cleveland, Columbus, Toledo, Dayton, and Youngstown media markets.

Campaign spokesman Dale Butland said the spots introduce the 30-year-old Sittenfeld to voters and highlight his interest in debating former Gov. Ted Strickland, front-runner for the Democratic nomination. Ads feature other Democrats – John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama – whose debate performance played a role in their election victories.

Strickland, Democrats’ endorsed candidate in the effort to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, hasn’t said whether he’ll debate Sittenfeld.
