COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A judge has agreed to seal records related to an Ohio death row inmate’s request to drop his appeals and be executed.

Condemned prisoner Gregory McKnight said earlier this year he wants to be put to death for killing Kenyon College student Emily Murray in 2000.

Federal Magistrate Judge Michael Merz agreed last week to seal filings by McKnight’s attorneys involving their conversations with McKnight.

Those conversations followed the attorneys’ September filing of a memo about McKnight’s mental health and competency related to his request to drop his appeals.

The lawyers say attorney-client privilege covers private discussions with McKnight concerning his mental state and other topics.

The 39-year-old McKnight was sentenced to death for killing Murray and to life in prison for killing a friend, Gregory Julious.
