COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A judge has ruled that Ohio University isn’t responsible for the $2,870 dental bill for a student who slipped on an icy sidewalk on campus and broke two of her teeth.

Hannah Scolaro of Akron had sued the school in the Court of Claims after the February fall that led to two root canals. She claimed that the school was negligent for failing to remove ice and snow or salt its sidewalks.

The Court of Claims ruled in her favor in August, but a judge overturned that decision Wednesday, ruling that the university in Athens had no duty to remove the ice and snow or warn the public of related dangers. OU said Scolaro should have been aware of winter weather hazards and taken precautions.
