Paul McNeal is in his first year coaching the team, and wants to have an all-inclusive offense. McNeal wants to make sure all five girls on the court are working together. The focus of this new team will not be about to worry about the outcome but more importantly, the process.

While this new Athens squad may not have a super star this year, there are a few key players worth noting.

Alexis McCollum looked dominant on the court for the Lady Bulldogs during the TVC Preview. McCollum forced a lot of turnovers and showed true athleticism up and down the court. She’s excellent at handling the ball and finding open shooters.

Another player the Lady Bulldogs will use actively is Emma Harter. She led the team in points at the TVC Preview, and it’s no surprise why. Harter is able to put up multiple shots no matter the coverage. She also plays aggressively on defense, and has great speed that put her first down the court on multiple breakaways.

Key games for Athens this year will come Dec. 3 at Nelsonville-York; this game will kick off conference play for the Bulldogs. Last season, the Lady Bulldogs were able to rout out the Lady Buckeyes in both games.

Another early important match-up will be Dec. 21 against Alexander. The Lady Bulldogs took a split series to the Lady Spartans last season.

The Lady Bulldogs consist of a brand new squad. Last year’s star players Dominique Doseck and company are no longer with the team, as well as head coach Wayne Horsley.  With a fresh roster and new leadership, the Athens looks to have a big transition year. Expect a slow start, as they work out the kinks, but find success mid-season when they get the process down and connect as one cohesive unit.
