The Bobcats shook the road woes that had been following them all season Friday with a 75-59 win over the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Despite loss to Duquesne Sunday, the team came out strong against the Seahawks.  The Bobcats put up 23 in the first period alone. Yamonie Jenkins started things off for Ohio, making a layup to follow jumper by UNCW’s Jordan Henry, but from then on Kiyanna Black and Quiera Lampkins led the way for Ohio with 26 and 21 points, respectively. Not to go unnoticed, both Yamonie Jenkins and Mariah Harris notched four assists. Controlled ball movement and smart passes in the paint were keys to the Bobcats’ offensive success.

This particular victory was not handed to Ohio without a fight.  The Seahawks hung tight with Ohio and even briefly took the lead. Naqaiyyah Teague consistently put up shots for the Seahawks, leading her team with a total of 19 points. However, shots scored from the field were far less impactful than what the Seahawks were able to score from the free throw line.

Ohio gave the Seahawks countless scoring opportunities by sending their players to the line a whopping 24 times. Five Bobcats were in foul trouble; with 3 or more fouls to each of them individually. The players were able to stay active in the game without fouling out, but the accumulation of personal fouls gave UNCW a fighting chance to take control of the game.

Ohio will take on the East Carolina Pirates Saturday for its second game of the Seahawks Hampton Inn Christmas Invitational.
