Host Kelly Martin talks with Jackie Mishler, the American Red Cross’ South District Recruitment Supervisor, about blood donations and the necessity to get donations before the summer months.

Every day the Red Cross must collect 14,000 blood donations. Volunteer blood donors are needed to help meet the needs of patients and are the only source of blood and platelets for those in need of transfusions. There is no artificial substitute for blood.

Mishler talks about who is eligible to donate, the types of blood that are needed and how they are used. She also discusses the different places and opportunities for people in Athens and surrounding areas to give blood and how the Red Cross is using technology to make donation an easier process.
