LAURELVILLE — One person was found dead in a Laurelville residence and another is injured after an incident, according to Hocking County law enforcement.

Hocking Sheriff BadgeA caller reported a possible robbery at a residence on Pleasant Ridge Road to the Hocking County Sheriff’s Office early Thursday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

The caller told law enforcement he and a friend had gone to the residence to drop off tools. The driver parked “a considerable distance from the residence,” according to a sheriff’s office press release. About an hour went by before the caller walked to the residence to “determine if there were any problems.”

The caller told deputies he heard “commotion” and ran to another residence to call for help.

“Upon their arrival, responding deputies observed a male individual lying in the driveway with injuries to the head,” the release stated. “Inside of the residence, they located the homeowner deceased.”

The man found in the driveway was airlifted to The Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. No condition was given.

Neither of the injured individual’s names, nor the name of the caller were released by investigators.

The sheriff’s office obtained search warrants for the victim’s residences and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called in to process the crime scene, according to investigators.

“Detectives are continuing to investigate the validity of the callers’ statement as well as the circumstances leading up to the crime,” the release stated.

The Ross County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene, along with the Hocking County Coroners Office and Hocking County Emergency Medical Services.
