A recent traffic stop in Athens County ended with a drug investigation and a hospital stay for one of the Sheriff’s investigators. According to a press release, K9 Bora was deployed for a “free-air sniff” during a late night traffic stop on U.S. 50 near Dow Lake Dam.

After indicating narcotics in the vehicle, Deputy Joel Banks noticed the dog’s inability to put weight on her back leg.  She was then taken to The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center in Columbus where it was confirmed that she had been bitten by a snake.

Sheriff Rodney Smith says K9 Bora is now home resting with a swollen paw but is otherwise alright. Smith did not indicate a specific time for her to return to work saying, “We’re going to give her all the time she needs to heal up before she comes back.”

The suspect involved in the incident was arrested by Ohio State Patrol.
