A proposed operating levy for Alexander Local Schools has failed for the third consecutive time with an unofficial count of 64% percent against, and 36% for in the 2017 November election.

Fred Davis, who was voted back into the Alexander School Board, says since state funding has been gradually shrinking for eight years, major budget cuts will be made.

“Everything is on the table, especially when it comes to staffing and busing transportation,” Davis said. “We’ll talk more about what we need to do when we meet tomorrow (Nov. 8) with the new school board.”

Lindy Douglas, Alexander Local Schools Superintendent said the school has not quite recovered from the staffing and busing cuts that were made after the levy failed last year.

Douglas and Davis say cuts to athletic programs are very possible as well, with talks of pay-to-play and cutting whole sports teams on the table.

Douglas said the cuts will be announced this March.
