Tonight may have been a cold one for Meigs fans as they made the trip to Wellston to watch their team take on the Golden Rockets, but that didn’t stop the Marauder defense from bringing the heat against the Wellston offense as Meigs (7-11, 4-6 TVC-Ohio) defeated the Golden Rockets (10-6, 6-3 TVC-Hocking) 48-35.

Both teams came out with high energy to start and  it was evident that this game was going to be a nail-biter.

Coach Fry called a full timeout with 6:16 left in the first quarter. From there the lead continuously bounced back and forth.

The fight continued into the second where the Meigs’ defense was able to continuously block Wellston’s shots causing the Golden Rockets to become frustrated.

Wellston began to push back harder with speed and precision and began to force the Marauders to turn the ball over.

Wellston’s Matt Simpson was a key contributor to the Golden Rockets’ game plan. At the end of the half he scored seven of Wellston’s 12 points.

However, the Golden Rockets’ plan was not enough to overcome the Marauders as they continued to stay in the lead at the end of the 2nd quarter with a score of 22-12.

The fight continued into the rest of the game as Meigs continued to smother Wellston.

By the end of the game, Meigs’ Nick Lilly put up a total of six points, 13 rebounds, and he had three steals. Alongside Nick was Weston Baer who put up 17 points, four rebounds, and a steal of his own.

Next week the Meigs Marauders will be hosting the Alexander Spartans Tuesday in hopes of another victory.
