LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) – The Kentucky attorney general’s office says it will seek the permission of the state legislature to form a grand jury to investigate Catholic dioceses statewide.

The move comes on the heels of a state attorney general’s report on Pennsylvania Catholic churches that showed church leaders protected more than 300 “predator priests” in six dioceses.

The Courier Journal reports Deputy Attorney General J. Michael Brown says his staff will draft legislation for lawmakers in Frankfort to consider.

Brown said in a statement that some abuse survivors have reached out to the attorney general’s office.

About two dozen protesters gathered in downtown Louisville Monday and said the Archdiocese of Louisville and the Catholic Church have failed to support victims of sex abuse and to hold accountable complicit church staff.
