CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – Fall color in higher elevations of the eastern mountains of West Virginia are past their peak, but state officials say there are still many parts of the state that are green with color beginning to show.

One area where color is showing after cooler weather is Sandstone Mountain in Raleigh County. The West Virginia Tourism Office and the West Virginia Division of Forestry say Raleigh County and Summers County are both at 55 percent peak. Counties in north-central West Virginia are also starting to have more colors.

The agencies said in a news release that a nice scenic drive would be along West Virginia Route 7 between Morgantown and Arthurdale, with Halloween-themed events planned in the area.
