Waterford has now been undefeated in conference play for five years straight, continuing its path of excellence Thursday night.

Taking the conference title, the Lady Wildcats (16-3, 11-0 TVC-Hocking) took   Wahama (6-10, 5-8) by storm 56-32.

Seconds before the buzzer leading into halftime, senior guard Rachel Adams blocked a shot by Wahama taking Waterford into the third quarter ahead 34-22.

Despite being ahead, the team continued to push strong on their offensive. In the third, the team scored eight points and were ahead by a total of 16.

Adams led the team with 22 points total, six of those on 3-point shots. Following behind her was freshman Cara Taylor with 10 points total, who put no hesitation in her footing before shooting the ball.

Another win was not the only exciting thing for the team, as the seniors also celebrated their final regular season home game. During the 3rd quarter, the families and friends stood up and cheered on the seniors.

Adams said she wants to finish the season and head into the postseason strong.

“Our community believed in us and our coach believed in us, which is what made us successful,” Adams said. “We have Parkersburg South next and we lost to them last time, so we want to come back strong and win against them.”

Waterford head coach Jerry Close said he thought the Lady Cats played well.

“First half, I thought a little sluggish,” Close said. “Sometimes senior night you can get that with the emotion, but I thought in the second half they played a lot better.”

Close said he wants to continue to get better each game going into the postseason.

“We’ve played really well in spots, but you can tell that we are young in spots,” Close said. “We need to get more steady and even throughout the tournament run.”

Close celebrated his 300th win last Monday, but was awarded his plaque at tonight’s game.

After the game, the team cut themselves a piece of the net to finish out senior night.

Their next game is Monday, Feb. 11, where Waterford will face Parkersburg South at 5:45 p.m.
