COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – Officials at Rickenbacker International Airport in Ohio say the airport will receive $15 million from the Federal Aviation Administration for improvements, including runway upgrades that will help increase cargo activity.

The president and CEO of the Columbus Regional Airport Authority said the improvements align with Rickenbacker’s growth strategies over the next 20 years. Airport officials say the Rickenbacker project is estimated to cost $33.5 million, including design and construction.

Upgrades to the cargo airport in Columbus will include relocating and replacing runway lighting, navigational aids and directional signs. Taxiway configurations also will be improved.

The airport authority says Rickenbacker contributes more than 15,000 jobs and $2.5 billion in annual economic impact in Ohio.
