LancasterChorale, central Ohio’s premier professional chamber choir, will begin its 35th Season with performances featuring Bach’s Exuberant Motet on October 12 & 13.

The 2019-20 programs begin with A New Song II: J. S. Bach’s Exuberant Motet and Premieres of New Works, to be held on Saturday, October 12 at 8 p.m. at First Congregational Church, 444 East Broad Street, Columbus, and Sunday, October 13 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 132 South High Street, Lancaster.

Johann Sebastian Bach’s double choir motet Singet dem Herm ein neues Lied (Sing to the Lord a New Song), to be featured at the concerts, was composed to celebrate the New Year in 1727. LancasterChorale Artistic Director Stephen Caracciolo notes that this joyous Bach motet is “considered the musical trial with which all professional chamber orchestras test their endurance and mettle.”

In addition to Bach’s motet, the concert will also highlight other motets from Baroque Europe, including works by Pachelbel and Monteverdi, in its first section, and new works by contemporary American composers in its second half. Highlights of the contemporary works include premieres of O magnum mysterium by Bill Roberts of Washington, D.C. and Caracciolo’s O Gracious Light. Organist Kevin Jones, who often collaborates with LancasterChorale, will join with the choir for these performances.

Adult tickets for the New Song II performances are available by phone, mail-in order, and at the door for $30 for LancasterChorale performances, with senior tickets at $25.00. Phone orders may be made by calling 740-687-5855 or e-mailing Officemanager@LancasterChorale.com. Season details, including repertoire, venues, dates, and times, may be found at LancasterChorale.com where you can also purchase season or individual tickets at a discount throughout the year.
