It will be Thursday, Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. in the Baker Center Theater

ATHENS, OH – WOUB Public Media is sponsoring an “Evening of Hope,” a documentary and a panel discussion about the impacts of male child sexual abuse at 7 p.m., Thursday, November 21, 2019 in the Baker Center Theater.

The award-winning movie “Boys and Men Healing” will be shown.  It is a documentary about the impact sexual abuse of boys has on both the individual and society.  It also stresses the importance of healing and advocating for male survivors to end the devastating effects of this abuse.

At least one in six males have been sexually abused but due to societal and cultural restraints many more incidents go unreported.

The movie will be followed by a panel discussion and “question and answer” period where male survivors will share their stories of abuse and healing.

Psychologist Dr. Howard Fradkin, a nationally recognized expert in the treatment of male sexual abuse victims, also will be on the panel to help answer audience questions.

The “Evening of Hope” is free and open to everyone. Anyone interested in learning more about male sexual abuse and surviving its long-lasting impacts is invited to attend.

This program in Athens is one of only two programs presented this month in Ohio.

The program is being co-sponsored locally by the Barbara Geralds Institute for Storytelling and Social Impact, the Scripps College of Communication, the Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education, the LGBT Center at Ohio University, the Athens County Sheriff’s Office, My Sister’s Place, Hocking, Athens & Perry Community Action, Tomcat BridgeBuilders, Athens Mayor Steve Patterson, SEOYM – Southeast Ohio Youth Mentoring, the Department of Social Work at Ohio University, and the Survivor Advocacy Program at Ohio University.
