The 89th COVID-related death has been reported in Athens County, along with 13 new cases for Nov. 2

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 89 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one was added to the total Tuesday. The county also has now had 7,904 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 13 new cases were reported for the same day.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the death and cases on Nov. 2, 2021.

Analysis of ODH data indicates the death involved a person 80 or older.

According to ODH data, the cases involved four people 30-39, four people 50-59, two people 40-49, a person 0-19, a person 20-29 and a person 60-69.

Two additional cases required hospitalization involving two people in their 60s. According to the data, 281 people in Athens County have been hospitalized due to complications related to this coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

There are 264 known active cases in the county as of Tuesday and 7,551 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 48.60% of the county has started the vaccination process and 45.68% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 4,216 additional doses administered.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Tuesday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 1,551,705 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide after 3,917 cases were reported in the last 24 hours. There have been 80,260 hospitalizations and 24,763 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
