Ohio Field Hockey falls to MAC foe Appalachian State, falls to 0-1 in conference
< < Back toATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – Ohio Field Hockey has gotten off to an impressive start with wins over Vermont, Michigan State, and Saint Louis. Its talent faced a key test Friday at Pruitt Field in its first MAC game of the season–facing Appalachian State. However, the Bobcats couldn’t follow up their home win from Sunday, falling to App. State 2-0.
The Mountaineers controlled the field throughout the majority of the game, but especially poured it on in the first period. App. State had six shots total with four of those being on goal in the period alone, and converted on a goal from Charlotte Bosma.
Despite the Mountaineers’ first half dominance, Ohio was able to fight in the second period with four penalty corners and five total shots. However, only one of those was on goal. The change in possession was able to keep the Mountaineers from threatening as the score remained 1-0 heading into halftime.
Appalachian State wasted no time coming out of the half, as the Mountaineers converted on a penalty corner within the first two minutes of the third period off the stick of Florine Koopman. Despite the quick start to the third period, Ohio was able to dial it in thanks in part to Macy Lotze’s tremendous goalkeeping.
Despite Ohio’s best efforts in the fourth, the Bobcats couldn’t cut down the Mountaineers’ lead and they fell to start MAC play 0-1.
Ohio’s back at it Saturday as it hosts Ivy League opponent Brown at 1 p.m. and returns to MAC play Sept. 29 at Longwood.
