The Eastern boys went 0-2 on the week, but both losses were decided by only three and two points, with one matchup going into overtime. On Monday January 13th, the Eagles took on Caldwell in an out of conference matchup. The Eagles lost in a tight contest, 71-68. The Eagles followed this intense game with an even more competitive in-conference rivalry versus Southern. Eastern displayed that they can hang with the conference leaders. This game went into overtime with the Eagles dropping a close game, 64-61. Colton Lloyd did earn boys Hero of The Week in this game though. Lloyd put up a game high 24 points and was very efficient on the night as well. This week, the boys take on Point Pleasant in Reedsville on January 21st at 7:30 pm as well as traveling to Trimble to take on the Tomcats on January 24th at 7:00 pm.
T4. Waterford Wildcats | 4-7 (Conf. 1-3)

The Waterford Wildcats had a tumultuous week. Waterford had three close games, with two coming down to the final seconds. The Wildcats began the week by facing the Frontier Cougars. Despite their best efforts, the Wildcats fell in the final seconds after missing a potential game-winning shot. In their next contest, Waterford traveled to Belpre for a matchup with the reigning conference champions. Even though they led with under a minute remaining, a clutch shot by Nasaih Spencer at the buzzer sealed a win for the Golden Eagles. Even though the Wildcats fell, the loss at Belpre was one of the best performances of the season according to coach DJ Cunningham. They got a measure of revenge on Saturday with a win at Frontier. It also came down to the wire, but the Wildcats followed a 16-point performance by Finn Pennock to a 41-37 win.
Waterford will face Caldwell on the road while facing the Trimble boys for a second time at home. Both of the TVC-Hocking squads have improved from their first meeting, so Friday’s game will be a test to see which squad make a late push for the Hocking title. With the Wildcats leaning on a lineup of four sophomores, they have shown significant improvement throughout the course of the season.

Behind a Hero of the Week performance from Avery Wagner, the Wildcats dominated the Lancers to the tune of a 60-41 victory. The Lady Lancers had the chance to get revenge against Belpre after losing to them earlier on in the season 68-76, and they did so in emphatic fashion, defeating the Golden Eagles this time around 77-49. Brenlee Cottrill led the way with a game high 27 points, with McKayla Nelson and Takira Walker adding 16 and 10 respectively.

The Eastern girls are still searching for a second win. This past week, the girls first traveled across state lines to Ritchie County where they lost 79-47. The girls then came back home to take on a more familiar in-conference opponent, the Trimble Tomcats. In this game the Eagles fought. Eastern went down big at the half, but showed promise in a solid second half. Mackenzie Robertson, a rising sophomore star, hit multiple big shots and scored a team-high 11 points. But in the end, the Eagles would lose 43-24 to Trimble. This coming week, the Eagles will take on Meigs January 22nd at 6:00 pm in Reedsville, and travel to Federal Hocking the following day to take on the Lancers at 7:00 pm.
