
Meigs remains perfect in conference, defeats Vinton County

POMEROY, Ohio (WOUB) –The Meigs Marauders hosted a match last night against the Vinton County Vikings, the top 2 teams in the Tri-Valley Conference Ohio boys. After a tight first quarter between the two teams, the Meigs Marauders eventually found their groove and won the game with the score 78-41. Leading the way this evening, players Carson Davis and Reed Brinegar had a combined score of 48 points between them helping secure the win for Meigs Marauders.
In the first quarter, Meigs had a slow start into the game. The Vikings brought in a new play to their offense which gave the Meigs a hard time to counter, like Vikings’ player number three Nash Yates who put up 16 points and had 3 assists. He left the dust. But, when the Marauders started going beyond the arc, Meigs matched the pace of the Vikings which shifted the intensity for the rest of the quarter. Due to this change, Meigs took the lead in close game, 20-16.
After a close first quarter, Meigs had possession of the ball going into the second quarter. The Vikings defense worked at the beginning, but in the second quarter, Meigs player Carson Davis, who had a total of 23 points and nine rebounds, started to get going from three. The quarter was dominated by the Marauders 22-8. Heading into the half, the Meigs had a lead of 42-24. Meigs were aided by the glass, gaining large amount of rebounds 39-17.
Going into the third quarter, the momentum between the two teams switched. Player Reed Brinegar was making basket after basket, with the total of 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Meigs continued the cruising, getting the crowd on their feet. Despite Vinton County falling behind, Cobra Sharp, Vikings player number 5 was holding out for the Vikings with 22 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 steal. Cobra Sharp continued to put up great numbers despite growing deficit. Meigs ended the quarter with the lead of 61-31.
Meigs began to substitute out their starters and sailed to victory with the score of 78-41. Meigs now gets ready to play the Alexander Spartans, Tuesday of next week. And the Vinton County Vikings get ready for Nelsonville-York tomorrow. Meigs improved to 16-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference. Vinton County falls to 7-8 overall and 6-2 in the conference.
