West Muskingum started their season early at home against Lakewood

MUSKINGUM, Ohio (WOUB) — The West Muskingum Tornadoes started their season a day earlier than usual and made the most of the early opportunity. West M dominated the Lakewood Lancers on the line and on the ground for a huge 42-0 shutout victory.
The storm began on the first play of this game as Carter Smith picked up the opening kickoff, evaded multiple defenders, and scored on a 97-yard kickoff return.
Quite the start to the 2025 season.
The only bump in the road in the first half would come on West M’s first offensive drive, a fumble near midfield after a handoff.
As Lakewood threatened to score in the red zone off the turnover, a pass on fourth down and six would be intercepted by David Evans.
Almost immediately following the interception, the West M offensive line made way for new Tornadoes Starting Quarterback Braxton Brownrigg to rush for a fifty plus yard touchdown rush.
Following great defensive line work and another stop, Brownrigg and company drove down to the 3-yard line where David Evans would be rewarded for phenomenal rushing on the drive.
The final touchdown was a pass thrown on a string by Brownrigg to wideout Tavin Bennett for six.
The barrage of scores left Lakewood scoreless after the first two quarters, 28-0 Tornadoes.
After the break, it was much of the same.
One point of interest was West M’s young running back Dente Tyson. He entered in the third quarter, provided promising runs, and scored on a red zone hand off with four minutes left in the third quarter.
After a running clock was issued, the fourth quarter ended with one final touchdown for West M as they took their first game of the season, 42-0. The same score they beat Lakewood by last year in week one.
The Tornadoes face a great test next Friday as they stay home and take on the Cadets of Fort Frye.
Meanwhile, the Lancers will face another MVL Small opponent in the Maysville Panthers.
