Meigs loses by one point after late offensive battle.

POMEROY, Ohio (WOUB) – After a tough, back-and-forth battle, Meigs falls by one point to Fairfield Union.
The Meigs Marauders boys’ basketball team welcomed the Fairfield Union Falcons on Tuesday for a nonconference matchup.
The first quarter was full of back-and-forth leads but ended with a Meigs lead of 15-14. Meigs’ junior Carson Davis scored 11 of their points.
The second quarter was packed with offense on both ends. However, Meigs prevailed again with a 26-20 lead. Davis only added four more points, with sophomore Colben Beucler having four points overall. Junior Gunner Cleland, freshman Ethan Grimm, Beucler, and Davis all had two rebounds.
In the third quarter of the game, the Falcons started to fight back, scoring 15 points. The Marauders only added 10 more points to push their lead to 36-35. Davis scored 21 points, and Falcons’ sophomore Asa Kline had 10 points in total.
The final quarter of play had the Falcons gaining the lead, but a Beucler free throw gave the Marauders a lead of 49-48. The Meigs’ lead was short-lived after a Kline basket gave the Falcons a lead of 50-49 to end the game.
Davis ended with 25 points, Beucler added 11, and junior Owen Tracy had nine points. Beucler also had eight rebounds and three turnovers. Davis had seven rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
In addition to his 10 points, Kline had three rebounds and two blocks. Junior Trevor Utzinger had 11 points, while junior Dean Clark added nine points and seven rebounds. Senior Drake DeFazio had eight points with three rebounds.
