The Blues, Jazz & Folk Music Society of Marietta, Ohio, have announced their 22nd annual River City Blues Competition, the oldest and largest blues talent competition in the state of Ohio.

The event will take place Feb. 14-15, 2014 at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta.

Past participants have come from New York, Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan, Kentucky, Indiana, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Well, dang. That time of the year. 

Usually, this is the part where I slander 2013 for being a big ball of musical crap, but I don’t get that pleasure this year. 

It was actually hard to narrow this down. There were some great records this year.

On Thursday, Dec. 19, the Athens County Community Singers will present their first annual Christmas Concert, an ARTS/West Presents event.

The Athens County Community Singers, formally known as the ATCO Vocal Choir, is a choir for "all voices," meaning those with and without disabilities.

Currently the group meets at the ATCO Workshop, located on Campbell St. in Athens on Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.

The organizers of the All Good Music Festival announced Monday that the Ohio music festival will be taking a year off in 2014 and seeking a new location in 2015.

The multi-day music festival has been held at Legend Valley in Thornville for the past two years in mid-July.

Prior to that, the festival had been held in Masontown, W.Va., for a number of years. Last year's headliners included Furthur, Pretty Lights, Primus and Sound Tribe Sector 9.
