SUMMARY:Athens County Humane Society takes orders for annual fall mum sale through Sept. 3
DESCRIPTION:ATHENS\, Ohio — The Athens County Humane Society is taking orders for its annual fall mum sale\, with proceeds funding animal welfare programs across the county. \nThe hardy chrysanthemums come from Norris Greenhouse in Meigs County; with 8″ pots of varieties like yellow\, red\, orange\, and purple mums available for $12 and 12″ pots of varieties such as Candy Corn\, Ghostbusters\, Hocus Pocus and Traces of Fall available for $22. \nOrders are due online by Sept. 3. and can be placed online at this link. Pickup runs 9:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Saturday\, Sept. 12\, in the Athens City Pool parking lot. \nThe sale supports several ACHS services. Its foster program places shelter animals in temporary homes\, where they get socialization and care while they wait for adoption. The society also holds biweekly adoption events\, keeps online adoption listings and conducts outreach to connect animals with permanent homes. \nACHS employs a humane agent who investigates reports of animal neglect and abuse countywide and helps rescue and rehabilitate animals in distress. A low-cost spay and neuter clinic serves qualifying low-income residents\, and the group’s Trap-Neuter-Return program works with volunteers to manage feral and community cat populations and reduce the number of unhomed kittens.

SUMMARY:Rich-Joseph Facun: 1804 Exhibition & Conversation
DESCRIPTION:VISCOM FOCUS + LIARS CORNER PRESENT \nRich-Joseph Facun\n1804 Exhibition & Conversation\nPhotographs\, Stories & Public Dialogue from 1804 \nOPENING RECEPTION\nWednesday\, September 2\, 2026 \n5:30–6:30 p.m. — Opening Reception\n6:30–7:30 p.m. — Conversation + Community Q&A\n7:30 p.m.–onward — Book Signing \nVisCom Focus Gallery\nSchoonover Center 250\nOhio University\n20 E Union St\nAthens\, OH 45701 \nRich-Joseph Facun in conversation with Roger May \nFree and open to the public. \nPhotographer\, storyteller\, and publisher Rich-Joseph Facun explores the evolving relationship between Ohio University and the surrounding community in his photobook 1804. Focusing on Athens\, the photographs consider place\, identity\, memory\, and belonging while looking at the ways institutions and communities shape one another. \nDuring the evening\, Appalachian photographer and writer Roger May joins Rich-Joseph Facun for a conversation about 1804 and the ideas\, experiences\, and relationships that shaped the work. They’ll talk about photographing a place that becomes home\, and what it means to find belonging in Appalachia; the role of community and support in an artist’s life; the enduring pull of the photographic print and the book as physical objects in a digital world; and how the social and political moment we live in finds its way into the work we make. \nThe conversation will open into a casual community Q&A\, and everyone is invited to stick around\, ask questions\, share stories and memories\, and talk about Athens\, our community\, and the places we call home. The evening will wrap up with a book signing\, and copies of 1804 will be available for purchase.
