SUMMARY:Meet Crazy Horse Family Elder and Author
DESCRIPTION:                                            CRAZY HORSE FAMILY ELDER AND AUTHOR VISIT OHIO UNIVERSITY \nCrazy Horse family elder Floyd Clown Sr will join author William Matson to discuss and sign their book “Crazy Horse: The Lakota Warrior’s Life and Legacy” based on the Family’s oral history October 9 at Ohio University’s Baker Center located at One Park Place 10th Avenue from 7 to 8:30 PM in Athens. \nThis will be their landmark 269th appearance as they travel across the United States and Europe. SUMMARY:Artist Reception for "People of a Darker Hue"
DESCRIPTION:Considered one of the most influential contemporary American artists\, Carrie Mae Weems has investigated family relationships\, cultural identity\, sexism\, class\, political systems\, and the consequences of power. Determined as ever to enter the picture — both literally and metaphorically — Weems has sustained an on-going dialogue within contemporary discourse for over thirty years. During this time\, Carrie Mae Weems has developed a complex body of art employing photographs\, text\, fabric\, audio\, digital images\, installation\, and video. \n“People of A Darker Hue”\, as noted by Hammonds House Museum\, is “a 14-minute short which invites the viewer to reflect on enforcement practices and policies that impact communities of color. Weems narrates the film with her dignified cadence and at once becomes informer and mourner as she speaks the names of those unarmed men and women killed due to police violence.” The film will play continuously during gallery hours. \nGallery 310\, located on the third floor of the Hermann Fine Arts Center at Marietta College\, is open Monday through Thursday\, noon to 4pm\, or by appointment at gallery310@marietta.edu. Gallery 310 observes all Marietta College holidays and breaks. All exhibitions and receptions are free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:An Evening With Mark Twain
DESCRIPTION:An Evening with Mark Twain\nFeaturing Stephen Hollen\, humorist\, storyteller and performer of Dayton\, Ohio.\nWednesday\, October 23\, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. \nSamuel Clemens (1835-1910) — better known by his pen name “Mark Twain” — was one of the greatest writers and humorists in American history. He is perhaps most well known as the author of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Many have tried to portray him\, but few have been as successful as award-winning humorst\, storyteller\, writer\, and performer Stephen Hollen. \nStephen grew up in eastern Kentucky where he honed his southern humor and learned the fine art of storytelling. Considered by many to be one of today’s premiere Appalachian humorists\, he first became a “Twainiac” at an early age when he began reading Twain’s books. It was simply serendipity which led him to impersonate Mark Twain. After hearing many times that he looked like Twain\, someone finally told him\, “You know … you like to tell stories\, you look like Twain and you love his wit… Why not be Twain?” And so much to everyone’s enjoyment\, he did. Please join us for a fascinating evening with the great Mark Twain as only Stephen Hollen can portray him. \nThe event is free and open to the public! \nJoin us at 45 W. 5th St. Chillicothe\, Ohio 45601\nCall us at 740-772-1936 if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Art Reception: Tina Fisher's\, "Oh\, Deer! I've Lost My Head"\, at Arts West
DESCRIPTION:For this show Tina Fisher\, a professional photographer based in Corning\, Ohio\, dabbles in mixed media photography with an eerie twist on mundane activities. The reception will feature refreshments and live music by Caitlin Kraus\, and Fisher’s work will be on display through Nov. 27.\nFree Admission.\n\n“Oh\, Deer! I’ve Lost My Head” is an analog collage series\, reflecting the solo journey through various facets of the human condition. Frequently\, not feeling very human at all\, people can react like a deer in headlights\, blinded and frozen in fear. Mostly\, folks persevere to savor the sweet\, mundane\, and extraordinary moments.  This collection was constructed by combining three separate components (head\, body\, background) to create one new image. No digital imagery or digital manipulation was used in the creation of these works. Elements of each collage were meticulously hand-cut from magazines destined for the recycle bin and placed in frames sourced from local thrift stores.
