DESCRIPTION:Silent Film/Organ Concert \nThe Southeast Ohio History Center is thrilled to welcome renown organist Dennis James on Saturday\, November 2nd and 3rd for this double-feature program. The first performance will be a live dramatization of an episode from the 1940s radio show\, Inner Sanctum Mysteries\, performed by the Athens Moveable Theater. After an intermission\, Dennis James will accompany the 1924 silent film\, Sherlock Jr.  There will be a special appearance of Felix the Cat at this event at the Southeast Ohio History Center at 24 West State Street in Athens.. \nSherlock Jr.\, an American silent comedy/detective film\, starring and directed by Buster Keaton\, was selected in 1991 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally\, historically\, or aesthetically significant”. \nThe Saturday\, November 2nd program will be a dinner theater-style event. Attendees can enjoy a delicious buffet dinner and desserts catered by Purple Chopstix. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. \nThe Sunday\, November 3rd program will be Family Night. Will the characters try their luck with martial arts\, attempt clever disguises\, or maybe just sacrifice a friend or two? SUMMARY:Defining American Liberty: New Perspectives on the Fort Gower Resolves
DESCRIPTION:On November 5\, 1774\, six months before the first shots of the American Revolution were fired at Lexington and Concord\, a group of Virginian officers who had served in Lord Dunmore’s Army gathered at Fort Gower\, above the confluence of the Ohio and Hockhocking Rivers\, to consider the grievances of British America and draft a series of resolves in response. As she travels through Wonderland\, she encounters all of the iconic characters that audiences have come to love including the ever-tardy White Rabbit\, the grinning Cheshire Cat\, a cool Caterpillar\, the wacky Mad Hatter and the hot-tempered Queen of Hearts. \nAdapted from the classic Disney animated film and the Lewis Carroll stories\, the show features Disney favorites such as I’m Late\, The Unbirthday Song\, and Painting the Roses Red along with brand-new songs\, including music from the 2010 live-action film. \nAlthough the story and production are of fantastical feats\, one might argue that the true fantastical feat is the growth ABC Players Jr. has seen over the course of 10 years. \nEach year\, the number of young actors auditioning and wanting to be part of the productions has grown\, with this year having 57 kids in total on stage. In addition to attracting new performers\, the retention of kids who have been with the organization since they first started producing Jr. shows has been incredible\, with seven seniors performing in their last Jr. show before graduating. \n“Being a part of ABC Players has been such an important part of my life for so many years\,” said Eden Radcliff\, who plays Alice and has been part of the Jr. productions for the past 10 years. “It feels weird to think that I’m graduating but this show feels like a perfect show to end this chapter. DESCRIPTION:Athens\, OH–Factory Street Studio (FSS) is excited to announce that the 2024 Winter Dance Celebration Concert will be on Friday\, December 13th at 7:00 pm and Saturday\, December 14th at 2:00pm at Ohio University’s Putnam Hall. FSS is a non-profit dance studio that started in 1978 that provides non-competitive dance education in Southeast Ohio\, promoting dance technique\, self-esteem\, personal growth and a cooperative spirit.  \n  \nFactory Street Studio would like to invite our families\, friends\, alumni and community members to join us as we celebrate the hard work and dedication of our dancers! The Winter Dance Celebration features performances by our ballet\, modern\, jazz\, hip-hop and tap technique students as well student choreographed pieces from our Capstone Composition class. DESCRIPTION:Musicians from all over the region will be gathering on Saturday\, December 14 at the historic Ariel Opera House in Gallipolis\, Ohio for the 12th annual Ariel Merry TubaChristmas. This 2 p.m. concert is part of a nationwide celebration of low brass music created by Harvey Phillips. Now in its 51st year\, Merry TubaChristmas is presented in over 250 cities throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. In an unusual turn of events\, the concert itself is free to everyone but the participants pay to perform as per the request of Phillips himself to provide funding to continue the tradition throughout the country.\n\nPhillips was inspired to create TubaChristmas as an annual event honoring his teacher\, the late great tubist William J. Bell who was born on Christmas day in 1902. Every Christmas season\, tuba and euphonium players of all ages gather to pay respect to all the great artists and teachers who represent their heritage. Every TubaChristmas performance features traditional Christmas carols especially arranged for low brass by American composer Alec Wilder who died on Christmas Eve 1980. Through Wilder\, TubaChristmas concerts pay grateful tribute to composers who have embraced these noble instruments with solo and ensemble compositions.\n\nTubaChristmas ensembles attract players from 8 to 80. The warm\, rich\, organ-like sound of the tuba-euphonium choir has won over the ears and hearts of every audience. It is no wonder that TubaChristmas has become an established Christmas tradition in cities throughout the world.\n\nNo tickets are needed for this free event at the Ariel located at 426 Second Ave. in downtown Gallipolis\, Ohio. DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the importance of glass in Lancaster’s history\, the community creates a beautiful piece of glass art throughout the year and comes together for a fun party on New Year’s Eve! Enjoy the free\, family-friendly street party at Zane Square in downtown Lancaster where you can explore local shops and restaurants. Drink delicious hot chocolate or carry a drink within the Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area; then capture the memory with a photo next to the glass globe. Make sure to stick around till midnight as we start the new year off with a bang– a fabulous fireworks show!

DESCRIPTION:The Southeast Ohio Chapter of the American Guild of Organists presents a Carol Walk for the 12th day of Christmas. Beginning at 3:00p.m. at First Presbyterian Church\, 2 N. Court St. in Athens\, moving on to St. Paul’s Catholic for a 3:30 program\, and concluding at Good Shepherd Episcopal with a 4:00 program. Each program will include a variety of Christmas music and carols to be sung by all. Following the third program\, a punch and cookies reception will be held at Good Shepherd.
