DESCRIPTION:Loosely based on the hit TV show from the 1970s\, The Dukes of Hazzard takes us back to rural Georgia where the Duke family – Uncle Jesse and cousins Bo\, Luke\, and Daisy – do their best to use their General Lee hotrod to out-maneuver the greed of local commissioner Boss Hogg and his lackey Sheriff Rosce P. Coltrane who are looking to put a stop to the Duke’s moonshine-running operation (or\, at least\, take a hefty piece of the action for themselves). Directed by Broken Lizard alum Jay Chandrasekhar and starring Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott\, this fun\, action-comedy also stars Willie Nelson and Jessica Simpson. \nAbout the series \nFollowing the success of the full capacity screening of our 50th anniversary of Appalshop’s STRANGER WITH A CAMERA screening in 2020\, the Athena Cinema and partners present an exciting new film series on Appalachian culture and depictions in film. \nThe mission of the series is to connect Athens and the university community to the surrounding region by examining the different ways Appalachia has been represented through film. DESCRIPTION:Forest and Form: Wood Sculpture by David Hostetler is a unique exhibition showcasing some of the late sculptor’s most important wood pieces\, created in Athens following his completion of a Master’s degree at Ohio University. It opens on Saturday\, April 18\, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hostetler Studios & Home (8089 N. Coolville Ridge Rd.\, Athens\, Ohio) and will remain on display through Spring 2027. \nLong before his work gained national attention\, David Hostetler was a foundational figure in Athens’ cultural life. A beloved and respected professor and founder of Art Park\, he helped shape the city’s creative identity for decades. His sculptures remain a visible part of the community\, with permanent works on Ohio University’s campus and at the Ohio University Inn. \nThe exhibition marks the first public showing of Bather (1961)\, Hostetler’s earliest full female figure and the foundational sculpture that launched his mature artistic voice. Alongside Bather\, the show features major wood carvings from the Hostetler personal collection\, including works that have never been exhibited in a gallery or museum setting. \nHostetler’s work was widely exhibited and written about during his lifetime\, with coverage in Ohio newspapers and magazines beginning in the late 1960s\, including outlets in Columbus\, Cincinnati\, Cleveland and Youngstown. \nVisitors will encounter an immersive installation designed to evoke a forest of carved forms\, with towering sculptures—some reaching up to ten feet tall—arranged as a living landscape of American hardwoods and exotic woods. Painted surfaces\, natural finishes and the raw presence of grain and scale reveal the evolution of Hostetler’s iconic female archetype across a 69-year sculpting career. \nHostetler’s work draws on a wide constellation of cultural influences\, including Native American petroglyphs\, ancient Goddess traditions and American folk art\, all distilled into a sculptural language that is both modern and timeless. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see these influences side by side in the material that shaped his earliest and most personal explorations: wood. \nIn addition to the sculptures\, the exhibition includes a curated selection of archival articles and features published throughout Hostetler’s life in Ohio and Nantucket media\, offering visitors deeper insight into the artist’s public reception and creative evolution. \nForest and Form opens the year-long centennial celebration\, David Hostetler: A Century of Form and Spirit\, honoring the 100th anniversary of the artist’s birth. \nThe exhibition is free and open to the public and will remain on view through spring 2027. Private viewings are available by appointment\, and group tours are welcome.

Equipment owned members of the Ohio Valley Chapter of the Historical Construction Equipment Association\, Historical Construction Equipment Association\, Yellow Power Caterpillar + Community and other organizations will be displayed or in operation. \n  \nAll antique trucks\, construction\, crawler\, and mining (surface or underground) equipment are welcome. Bring you antique trucks\, crawler\, construction\, mining equipment for some digging fun or static display. Exhibitor camping available on site. Photo and history displays are also welcome. \n  \n9th Annual Appalachian Ohio Antique Power Show \n  \nAntique tractors\, engines\, hit & miss\, oilfield engines\, cars\, trucks (semi & pick up)\, and garden tractors. \n  \nAll agriculture\, construction\, Industrial\, mining\, military\, logging\, oil & gas\, steam\, and transportation machinery and history welcome. \n  \nFeaturing Ohio Built. We are celebrating America’s 250 by showcasing Ohio’s industrial contribution to America 250. Bring your Ohio Built equipment and any equipment manufacturer that started in Ohio. \n  \nWe are also celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Historical Construction Equipment Association-Ohio Valley Chapter. “1996-2026” \n  \nIf you are bringing a truck & trailer contact Bill Flesher @ 740-381-8761.
