With degrees in history from Kenyon College and American Material Culture from the Winterthur Program/University of Delaware\, Andrew’s passion is the decorative arts of Ohio. He has lectured and published widely on the subject and has curated two major exhibitions: Equal in Goodness: Ohio Decorative Arts 1788-1860 and A Tradition of Progress: Ohio Decorative Arts 1860-1945. DESCRIPTION:The Athens County 4-H Committee is hosting a benefit spaghetti dinner in conjunction with the 2016 Athens County 4-H Awards ceremony on Saturday\, November 5\, at Christ Community Wesleyan Church. The spaghetti dinner will begin at 6 p.m.\, with the awards program to start at 6:30 p.m. Proceeds from this event will go to support scholarships for next year’s 4-H camp. The dinner is $5 in advance and $8 at the door. If you’d like to purchase dinner tickets in advance\, please just stop by the Athens County Extension Office by Thursday\, October 27. Dinner will include spaghetti\, bread\, salad\, dessert\, and a drink—a very yummy\, nutritious meal that’s less expensive than what you’d likely spend at McDonald’s and definitely for a very good cause!!   This is your chance to meet the new County 4-H Educator while supporting and honoring our 4-H youth for all their hard work this year!

DESCRIPTION:Support United Campus Ministry at the annual Benefit Bash on Saturday\, Nov. 5\, 6pm at the Athens Community Center. Dinner will be catered by Mauvette’s featuring Caribbean cuisine\, and Jackie O’s beer followed by dancing with a live performance by local singing sensation Sharell Arocho backed by keyboardist Jesse Warner and percussionist Eric Wright. There will also be raffle and silent auction featuring items and gift certificates from local individuals and businesses. This benefit supports UCM’s work in the community including Thursday Supper and Saturday Lunch which provide more than 5\,000 free meals to the community annually and opportunities for students and community members to engage in service and social justice activities.

DESCRIPTION:ARTS/West is pleased to host the 8th Annual Women of Appalachia Project (WOAP) “Women Speak” performance\, an evening of juried poetry\, story and song\, featuring artists from throughout Ohio\, West Virginia and Kentucky. The event will be held in the Robert L. Winters Memorial Performance Space on November 18\, 2016\, at 6pm. \nThe mission of WOAP is to showcase the way in which female artists respond to the Appalachian region as a source of inspiration\, bringing together women from diverse backgrounds\, ages and experiences to embrace the stereotype – to show the whole woman; beyond the superficial factors that people use to judge her. Doors open at 5:30pm. The presentation is free to the public\, though donations in support of WOAP and ARTS/West will be taken at the door.
