DESCRIPTION:  \nLocal Girls Community Christmas Concert at Southeast Ohio History Center \nThe Southeast Ohio History Center is happily hosting The Local Girls Annual Community Christmas Concert on Sunday\, December 10 at 2pm. \nThe Local Girls accompanied David Bromberg\, performed at the White House\, and provided music for two award-winning series on NPR\, as well as PBS-TV. A Prairie Home Companion gig was one of their favorites. In the summer of 2004\, The Local Girls performed throughout Germany\, Austria and France and on the streets of Vienna. They have been described as “a soundfest of three-part harmony that is so good it can make you cry with joy”\, by local musician\, Roman Warmke. \nThe Local Girls\, Mimi Hart\, Gay Dalzell and Brenda Catania will be joined by musicians Kyle Slemmer\, Mark Hellenberg\, and their tried and true backup band of Michael McGannon and Terry Douds. \nThe concert will have a special appearance by Sarah Hart\, a singer/songwriter whose songs have been recorded by many. Hart performed\, by special request\, for Pope Francis at the Vatican. Now the Local Girls and Sarah Hart are here to play for their own beloved community at our own Southeast Ohio History Center. What a beautiful venue! Please join them in singing. This year\, five different interactive experiences have been developed\, including a “mini-walk” for people who want to participate but find it difficult to physically walk. All WALK experiences have been developed to creatively inspire and inform participants about the problems people without homes face\, and issues of poverty in rural Appalachian Ohio. \nThe Timothy House is the only shelter for people experiencing homelessness in eight counties\, and the financial goal of the WALK is to raise 1/3 of the total operational costs of the Timothy House (or $60\,000). January 1st marked the start of Good Works 38th year of providing shelter to people who experience homelessness in rural Ohio and has provided more than 115\, 000 nights of shelter since 1981. DESCRIPTION:On April 2nd\, the Hocking River Conservancy along with Rural Action will be planting 3900 trees along the Hocking River near Logan\, and we need your help! These trees will be planted to reclaim an old field on the banks of the Hocking River\, bringing back an important riparian buffer back to the ecosystem. These trees will serve to filter runoff\, provide a habitat to native animals\, and provide important nutrients to the stream. \nVolunteers can meet at the Rural Action office\, located at 9030 Hocking Hills Dr. in the Plains\, and caravan to the site. The caravan will depart at 8:30 a.m. Volunteers can also travel to the site at their own convenience.
