SUMMARY:Friends of Athens CASA Superhero 5K
DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Athens CASA for the 8th Annual Superhero 5k!! We are planning on another out-of-this world virtual event\, but we are also crossing our fingers and shaking our capes in hopes of being able to offer an opportunity for locals to run together. Because of the nature of the pandemic and ever-changing circumstances\, we will announce any in-person opportunities in August. Regardless\, grab your capes and sign up for the virtual 5k! If we determine that we can safely gather\, we will extend an invitation to all registered participants! \nJust like in the past\, registered Superheroes will receive the best swag around –> Exclusive Superhero5k Cape\, “Why I Run…” Bib and maybe even a surprise or two. Participants have a few options for receiving their race packets. You can opt to pick up your packet during an Athens Packet Pick Up day; receive your packet via US Mail for a small shipping fee; or decline your packet. \nYou can get in on the VIRTUAL fun by posting a picture documenting your 5k anytime between September 17 and September 19. You can run\, walk\, roll\, peddle\, paddle\, roller skate or swim your 5k. Most of all\, you still mark your support of the 100+ children in Athens County who rely on Athens CASA to protect their best interests. You must register before September 4th to receive a race packet. You can still register after that date\, but you will not receive the race packet or swag. \nIf we are able to safely hold an in-person event\, it will occur on September 18th in Athens\, Ohio. Once a determination has been made\, registered participants will receive an invitation to attend. \nThis year’s race is more important than ever as Athens CASA\, along with many victim-serving organizations in Ohio\, faces a 30% federal funding cut\, in addition to the 30% cut in 2020. Please join the effort to support and protect our kids… and do it with friends!

SUMMARY:'All Together Now' Fundraiser for Athens County Food Pantry
DESCRIPTION:Ohio Valley Summer Theater\, a theater group founded in Athens in the early 1950s\, is presenting its very own musical theater show titled “All Together Now” dedicated to songs from famous musical works. The two-day event will take place on November 12 & 13 at the ArtsWest facility on 132 W State St. \nThe event features songs from famous works such as Rent\, Les Misérables\, Matilda\, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory\, Hairspray and many other favorites. All Together Now is presented by a special arrangement with Music Theater International.\n“We are beyond excited to be back on stage\,” said OVST executive director Christopher Parsons. “This event is sure to an entertaining show for the Athens community to enjoy.” \nSince 1951\, OVST has been displaying their performances under the mission of providing a safe\, educational and inclusive theatrical experience to as many as possible. \n \nNaturally\, Covid-19 put OVST’s production on hold for a while. OVST was recently fortunate enough to have the opportunity to celebrate their 70th anniversary with a performance of Clue that was just presented on Oct. 8. \nIn addition to the shows\, the OVST is donating 100% of the proceeds from the events to the Athens County Food Pantry. The organization felt the need to give back to the community that it calls home. As many are aware\, Athens County is the poorest county in the state of Ohio. It is important for this event to gain attention as it could greatly help a community that desperately needs it. Christopher Parsons and the crew at OVST seem fairly eager to assist the community in any way they can. \n“The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted something that many of us already knew — food security is a serious issue in Appalachia\,” said Christopher Parsons. “OVST wants to use the opportunity of staging All Together Now as a way of using local musical theater talent to raise money for an organization that helps feed so many people.” \nWhat: Musical theater performance titled ‘All Together Now’.\nWho: Ohio Valley Summer Theater & ArtsWest collaboration\nWhere: ArtsWest 132 W. State\, Athens\, OH 45701\nWhen: Friday\, November 12 & Saturday\, November 13\, 2021 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. \nTickets are currently starting at $10 in limited seating. To buy tickets for the All Together Now event as well as more information on OVST\, visit ovst.org.

SUMMARY:Athens CASA/Gal Superhero 5K 2022
DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Athens CASA for the 9th Annual Superhero 5k!! We’re bringing the Superhero 5k back bigger and better than ever before with a kids’ obstacle course\, bounce houses\, crafts and more. Just like in the past\, registered Superheroes will receive the best swag around –> Exclusive Superhero5k Cape\, “Why I Run…” Bib and maybe even a surprise or two. Participants have a few options for receiving their race packets. You can opt to pick up your packet during race day check in; receive your packet via US Mail for a small shipping fee; or decline your packet. \nCan’t make it to Athens on race day? You can run\, walk\, roll\, peddle\, paddle\, roller skate or swim your 5k wherever you are… just remember to tag us and post using #AthensCASA5k. Most of all\, you still mark your support of the 100+ children in Athens County who rely on Athens CASA to protect their best interests. \nFor those joining us in-person on race day\, check in begins at 9am with limited activities and games for kids and the run begins at 10am. There will be CASA merchandise available for purchase. In the event that public health circumstances change and it is no longer safe to hold an in-person gathering\, the event will revert to 100% virtual. No refunds will be given. \nThis year’s race is more important than ever as Athens CASA\, along with many victim-serving organizations in Ohio\, faced back-to-back federal funding cuts\, while new referral rates continue to soar. Please join the effort to support and protect our kids… and do it with friends!
