With over a decade at Reuters as a photo editor\, focusing on breaking and developing international news pictures\, she brings a deep commitment to visual storytelling. Now based in the United States\, Loriene is pursuing an MFA in photojournalism and documentary video at Ohio University. Her work centers on capturing authentic\, spontaneous moments and shedding light on underrepresented stories in Southeast Ohio. Recently honored as Ohio’s College Photographer of the Year by the Ohio News Photographers Association\, Loriene is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of narrative through photography. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Defining American Liberty: New Perspectives on the Fort Gower Resolves
DESCRIPTION:On November 5\, 1774\, six months before the first shots of the American Revolution were fired at Lexington and Concord\, a group of Virginian officers who had served in Lord Dunmore’s Army gathered at Fort Gower\, above the confluence of the Ohio and Hockhocking Rivers\, to consider the grievances of British America and draft a series of resolves in response. In honor of the 250th Anniversary\, the Southeast Ohio History Center is planning a day of commemorative programming to bring this largely-forgotten chapter of Ohio’s history to life. \nConference speakers include: \nTom O’Grady\, Southeast Ohio History Center; Nicole Bialko\, Lanier College; Georgia Cyrus Moore\, Baltimore Community Museum; Jeremy Turner\, Shawnee Tribe; Todd Kleismit\, America 250-Ohio; Stephen Warren\, University of Iowa; Travis Henline\, Jamestown/Yorktown Settlement Foundation; Brandon Downing\, Marietta College; Chris Matheney\, Ohio Statehouse. \nBreakfast\, lunch\, and snacks will be provided. \nVisit southeastohiohistory.org for a full conference schedule and to register!

DESCRIPTION:Lyceum Luncheon Speaker Series Starts back up for 2025 \nThe Southeast Ohio History Center is restarting it Lyceum Luncheon Speaker Series for 2025 with a presentation of the iron furnaces of Southeast Ohio on Thursday\, February 20 at noon. Tom O’Grady\, from the History Center\, will kick off the brown bag speaker series with a presentation entitled Stone Pyramids of Southeast Ohio Forests: Iron Furnaces Helped Build America. \nMore than 60 iron furnaces were built between the Ohio River and Hocking County in the Hanging Rock Region of Ohio. Small towns grew up around the iron furnaces while the forests disappeared. Few remnants of this important industry survive into the 21st century. \nThe Lyceum Luncheon speaker series is held at the History Center on the third Thursday each month at noon.
