DESCRIPTION:The Multicultural Genealogical Center in Chesterhill will host Trevellya “Tee” Fordahmed\, as she speaks on “The Shifting Paradigm and the Number Three”.\nSoutheastern Ohio is but a microcosmic representation of an environment that experiences change when some-one\, group or entity projects their thinking on how something should be organized\, reorganized or revamped. This presentation reveals how years ending in the number three (3) consistently mark a major shift in worldview and practice. In essence\, these years upend and replace the existing paradigms.\nTrevellya “Tee” Fordahmed\, PhD\, serves as the Communication/Media Director for\nthe Mount Zion Black Cultural Center in Athens\, Ohio\, and is a Professor Emerita in\nthe College of Arts and Humanities at West Virginia State University (WVSU).\nHer extensive portfolio includes short productions for both WVSU and Ohio University\, as well as a promotional video for Mount Zion. Currently\, she is working on “Athens Black Wall Street\, Episode 2”\, the second installment of a three-part docuseries that chronicles the decline of Black landmark structures in Southeastern Ohio’s River Valley along the Underground Railroad\, and efforts to preserve the last one standing: the 1906 Mount Zion Baptist Church\, renowned for its invaluable stained-glass windows.\nAmong her many academic publications are the cultural studies anthology Generation to Generation\, Maintaining Cultural Identity over Time\, and Nature of a Sistuh: Black Women’s Lived Experiences in Contemporary Culture.\nTee’s international experience encompasses study tours for students and faculty to\ncountries such as West and South Africa\, Estonia\, the Czech Republic\, Mexico\, Russia\,\nand Zimbabwe.\nTee achieved a Ph.D. in Mass Communication from Ohio University\, an MA in\nInterpersonal Communication from New York University\, and a BFA in Theater Arts\nfrom the Art Institute of Chicago

DESCRIPTION:The Cassatt Quartet performs at Ohio University’s Glidden Hall as part of their 40th anniversary season\, with a free concert featuring string quartets by Shostakovich and Dorothy Rudd Moore\, along with Brahms’s Piano Quintet in F Minor\, for which the quartet will be joined by pianist – and Ohio University piano faculty –  Emely Phelps. \n\n\nHailed for its “mighty rapport and relentless commitment\,” the Cassatt String Quartet has performed throughout the world for four decades\, with appearances at Alice Tully Hall and Weill Recital Hall; Tanglewood Music Center; the Kennedy Center; Théâtre des Champs-Élysées; Centro National de las Artes; Maeda Hall; and Beijing’s Central Conservatory. \n\n\nTheir 2024-2025 season includes a busy schedule of performances in the U.S. and internationally\, including an Italian tour alongside guitarist Eliot Fisk; recording the great quartet Modes by Dorothy Rudd Moore\, alongside other string quartets by Black American women; teaching residencies at major universities and conservatories; and\, in proud Cassatt Quartet fashion\, premieres of important commissions\, including a piano quintet by Victoria Bond and a new work for string quartet by Joan Tower\, to be premiered at Maverick Concerts in September 2025. \n\n\nThe members of the Cassatt Quartet are violinists Muneko Otani and Jennifer Leshnower; violist Emily Brandenburg; and cellist Gwen Krosnick. The Quartet is named for Mary Cassatt\, the great 19th- and 20th-century painter who – in addition to being the only American to exhibit in Paris alongside the Impressionists – did devoted\, lifelong work in support of women’s equality and right to vote.
