DESCRIPTION:The Catholic Ladies of Columbia will host their annual Ice Cream Social Fundraiser on Saturday\, September 6\, 2025\, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. in The Holy Family Center\, 75 Stewart Street\, Athens.  The ladies will be serving pulled pork and chicken salad sandwiches\, hot dogs/sauce\, baked beans\, coleslaw\, mac & cheese and chips. Premium Larry’s Dawg House ice cream and toppings plus home-baked pies\, brownies and sundae cookies will be available. \nCake walks will be held throughout the event. We will also have a fun chance auction\, 50/50 split the pot\, children’s grab bags and a bean bag toss for Beanie babies.  A free craft table for children will be provided. A Silent Auction featuring 15 specialty packages will be available for silent bids. We have 2 OSU vs UCLA football 50-yard line tickets\, autographed photo of Joe Burrow\, 4 OU Bobcat Football tickets\, 80 x 90 Scrappy Christmas Quilt\, Zoo tickets and so much more. \nEveryone is welcome.  Please come out to support the CLC and enjoy an afternoon of fun\, food and friendship.

DESCRIPTION:The Lyceum Luncheon Brown Bag Speaker Series presents a program on Education\, Abolition\, and Baseball: More History from Southeast Ohio by Peter Cultice on Thursday\, September 18th at noon at the Southeast Ohio History Center. \nCultice\, President of the Muskingum County History since 2018\, practiced law in Southeast Ohio for 30 years and serves as a Magistrate in the Juvenile and Probate courts in Guernsey County. His love of history stemmed from growing up in Zanesville and graduating with a degree in history from Emory University in Atlanta\, Georgia. \nCultice will share stories of interesting characters from Southeast Ohio such as Joshua McSimpson\, from Big Bottom in Morgan County and Charles Thomas of Zanesville. McSimpson wrote The Emancipation Car: Being an Original Composition of Anti-Slavery Ballads\, Composed Exclusively for the Underground Railroad.  Thomas\, from Zanesville\, inspired Branch Rickey to bring Jackie Robinson into Major League Baseball. DESCRIPTION:This year\, we’re teaming up with Raccoon Creek Outfitters and adding a new twist to Paddle for Polio Plus. We’ll meet at Raccoon Creek Outfitters headquarters and basecamp on U.S. Route 50 and enjoy a leisurely float and paddle down the infamous Raccoon Creek. We’ll celebrate with food\, entertainment\, and prizes back at basecamp. \nPaddle for Polio Plus is a unique fundraiser aimed to raise awareness and support for Rotary’s quest to completely eradicate polio from the world. The initiative is over 3 decades strong and Rotary’s goal is complete eradication. Only a few countries continue to report new polio cases. We’re almost there\, but the final push is more critical than ever. It is estimated that is will take about $1 Billion to finish the job. \nAthens Sunrise Rotary aims to raise $2000 at this event\, which will eventually vaccinate 3600 children thanks to a triple match by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. \nThe event is family-friendly and will feature music\, free food and tons of games and activities for the entire family! Children 12 and under are free with a ticketed adult.

DESCRIPTION:News Release #3 \nVinton County Air Show \nSeptember 21 \nVinton County Airport \n  \n  \nVinton County Air Show plans are just about complete for this year’s show on September 21st.  Bob Church\, Jump Master\, for the Screaming Chicken Sky Diving Team\, said that his jumpers are ready to go for this year’s show.  He also stated that Santa Clause will sky dive in for this year’s show and candy drop for the children. \n  \nAll the acts for the show have been finalized and the pilot’s are ready to thrill all the spectators up on Pumpkin Ridge.  This year’s show will feature Emerson Stewart\, Brett Hunter\, Robert LaCerta\, Nick Coleman and Mike Hartman.  These are some of the best aerial acrobatic pilots and planes in the business.  Also\, you’ll see some of the best radio controlled aircraft strut their stuff at this year’s show.  The flying lawn mower will buzz the show again this year thanks to Roger Barnes! \n  \nThe McArthur Eagle’s Club will Bar-B-Q the chicken and Vinton County’s 4-H members and parents will serve it up for you!  The V.C. Football team will help out parking cars and the Marching Band will open the show! \n  \nPlease note that Airport Road off of Route 93 will close at 12:30. To access the airport and parking area take St. Rt. 328 to Airport Road east.
