DESCRIPTION:Catch to Finish: The World of Competitive Rowing \nFrom the outside\, rowing appears serene\, graceful and beautiful. In reality\, rowing is relentless\, demanding and often painful. In this engaging and accessible presentation\, we’ll trace the evolution of competitive rowing from its origins on the River Thames to the modern era. Through video\, images and even a hands-on opportunity to try an ergometer (indoor rowing machine)\, attendees will gain a deeper appreciation for the sport and its lasting impact on athletes and communities around the world. \nTanner O’Connor is a 2011 graduate of Marietta High School and a 2015 graduate of Marietta College and currently serves as the Director of Rowing for the Harmar Rowing Club and Head Coach of the Marietta Tiger Navy. Now in year 15 of coaching\, crews under Tanner’s leadership have earned titles at the Dad Vail Championships\, Midwest Championships and National Championships. SUMMARY:Silvopasture Tour: Krusling Farm
DESCRIPTION:Learn about silvopasture on a pastured sheep operation in Athens County! \n\n\n\n\nThis silvopasture tour will take place at Krusling Farm where the Krusling family raises 400 hair sheep on 90 acres of fescue clover pasture\, plus 50 acres of rented ground for grazing annuals and 35 acres of unreclaimed limtestone gravel mine which is in the process of being converted to natives for grazing. \nThe Kruslings have established silvopasture by addition and subtraction across their farm. We will visit areas where they have planted purchased tree seedlings as well as areas where they have allowed for natural regeneration by mowing around tree saplings that come up on their own in the pastures. In fall 2024\, they cleared a large wooded area at the back of their property and seeded it into a diverse pasture mix. \nAttendees can expect to tour each of these silvopasture areas on the farm\, learn about the primary motivations for establishing silvopasture\, discuss water quality impacts\, and consider tree protection methods\, layout design & planting tips. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Guided Photography Experience
DESCRIPTION:This is a half-day experience on trail\, led by photographer Josh Reuck. \n\n\n\n\nParticipants slow down\, learn to see the landscape with intention\, and make photographs that reflect where they actually are. The focus is observation and presence\, not gear or technical mastery. Any camera works\, mobile phone cameras are discouraged. A tripod is also suggested as we’ll be shooting in low light during the late afternoon/ evening hours\, but not required. \nSession runs during golden hour on September 12 for roughly 4 hours\, 3:00PM – 7:00PM. The sun will be setting around 7:45PM\, so we’ll plan to be off the trail and at the trail head no later than this time. We’ll begin with an overview of the session and ensure everyone is prepared for our adventure. \nHow the evening works: \nThe group moves at a natural pace down the trail\, when someone notices something worth stopping for\, we stop. We talk about what drew their eye\, what they’re trying to capture\, and how to set themselves up for the best chance of getting it. Settings\, light\, lens choice\, and framing come up in context\, when they’re actually relevant. We will abstain from a long lecture in the classroom or at the trail head. \nThroughout the evening there will be periodic pauses to read a scene together: what the light is doing\, what the landscape is offering\, what might be worth waiting for. The goal is to leave with a different relationship to observation\, not just a card full of images. \nRachael – Naturalist: Rachael will be joining us on this experience to guide the group for a better understanding and education of our natural surroundings. The combination of ecological knowledge and photographic seeing creates a richer experience for participants and broadens the audience it serves. \nRain/Shine \nParticipants should come prepared for light rain\, layers\, waterproof footwear\, and a bag or cover for camera gear are recommended. Runs take place on the bikepath\, so you have the opportunity to go as short or as long as you’d like. Masks are not required during the run\, but we ask you to please wear your mask prior to the start of the run\, after the run\, and while in the store.
