DESCRIPTION:AHRC\, located at 5991 Industrial Dr.\, was recently awarded the 2024 ServeOhio Day grant from ServeOhio to help beautify our property! We have not one\, not two\, but three service days! \nThis is the final service day and will see volunteers installing the upcycled art made by our volunteer artists the previous week and also the creation of a few raised flowerbeds + flower planting! You can come anytime during this service day to help out\, but I highly recommend coming early so you all can hear the impact of the volunteer work! Free refreshments will be offered! \nThis is an all-ages service opportunity and is a great to meet others passionate about AHRC\, sustainability\, and service! \nA bit more about ServeOhio Day: \nServeOhio Day exists to encourage and promote hands-on volunteer engagement while school is out for the summer. ServeOhio Day intentionally takes place on summer solstice in June\, the day in the year with the longest period of daylight\, to maximize participation in a number of service projects ranging from educating youth about summer safety to community clean-ups. \nWe hope to see you here!

SUMMARY:Wetland Wonders Bike Tour
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us for a bike tour led by naturalist\, Lynn Holtzman\, through the Wayne National Forest! We are offering two route options for our participants to choose from based on their preferences. We will start and finish our routes at The Baileys Trailhead in Chauncey. \n\nThe first option is a shorter 3.8-mile round trip on paved roads leading to the Big Bailey Wetland. One of our guides will accompany this group back while the other will lead the longer route.\n\n\nExplore the longer route to experience a 10-mile loop showcasing the beauty of three wetlands in Chauncey: Big Bailey Wetland\, Utah Ridge Pond\, and another tranquil Wayne National Forest wetland. This scenic route offers 657 feet of elevation gain and is ideal for riders seeking a moderate challenge with hills and diverse terrain\, including some sections with loose gravel.\n\nThese wetlands are popular birding hotspots. The Big Bailey Wetland\, which spans 6-7 acres\, holds a special significance as it used to be part of a railroad operated by a mine. Today\, it serves as a thriving home for diverse wildlife\, including a small Blue Heron rookery located at the back of the wetland. Visitors have even spotted Bald eagles in this area. \n**Both routes will start off by following a portion of route OH-13\, which can have some traffic. While there is room for biking\, it may not be suitable for younger children. \n\nThis is a non-competitive event.\nParticipants are encouraged to bring their own biking equipment\, as well as water and snacks\nFeel free to bring binoculars!\nHelmets are required.\nAdaptive bikes are available for participants with limited mobility\, please reach out to Madison Donohue (madison@ruralaction.org) at least 24 hours in advance to request an adaptive bike.

The timer starts at 1 p.m. Entrants will have 15 minutes in the thrift store and 45 minutes to alter and improve their finds before showcasing their outfits in a fashion show. On this tour you will visit the ruins of the town of Old Floodwood. Here we will meet local historian\, Tyler McDaniel\, who will tell us stories of the past as he shares his passion of Appalachian history and his colloquial knowledge of Old Floodwood\, the town his Great Grandma was a resident of long ago. The start and end location of this tour is Eclipse Company Store. What was once the coal miners’ company store\, now is renovated into a beer hall and eatery. Participants will have the opportunity to patron the Company Store that now offers a wide variety of drinks on tap upon returning from the tour.

SUMMARY:Vinton County National Bank hosts 'Back 2 School Bash'
DESCRIPTION:The Vinton County National Bank hosts a free Back 2 School Bash for local kids and families on Saturday\, August 3. This event will include inflatables\, lunch\, goody bags for kids\, a visit from Saver Squirrel and more! We’ll fire up the grill for hot dogs\, crank up the popcorn machine and slushies!  PLUS\, the Mark Wood Fun Show will be here to entertain the kids! \nNon-profit organizations in Vinton County are welcome to come set up a table to pass out information as long as they offer something fun and free for school aged kids. \nThis event will be held 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the grassy lot next to the bank’s Depot Drive-Thru in McArthur.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for a day of exploration and engagement at Solid Ground Farm! \nThis family-friendly fundraiser and showcase will highlight some of the amazing new projects and programs developed through our Community Ecology Apprenticeship Program. \nOfferings include: \n\n\nGuided tours of the farm and forest \n\n\nNature-based youth games and activities \n\n\nEarth skills and craft opportunities \n\n\nIndigenous cultural exchange\, \n\n\nA Natural building workshop \n\n\nPresentations on regional work to grow a place-based regenerative economic system. \n\n\nAn optional sit-down lunch will be offered from 1 to 2pm\, during which supervised youth activities will be available down the hill.
