DESCRIPTION:Athens High School along with ABC Players and ARTS/West Presents brings a staged reading of The Laramie Project to ARTS/West on May 3 at 7:30pm. The play\, written by Moisés Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic Theater Project\, is based on the true story of the hate crime and trial of Matthew Shepard. The play features portraits of the community’s response to the murder in what has been called the modern Our Town. This event shined a light on the lack of protection laws against hate crimes in Wyoming and the United States.

SUMMARY:Appalachia Rising Community Festival
DESCRIPTION:On June 10th\, 2017\, join us for the 2nd annual Appalachia Rising Festival at Solid Ground Farm\, and experience a day of outdoor family fun. Enjoy the new obstacle course and recreation grounds\, a pig roast and farm to table fair featuring locally grown mulberry products\, a local craft beer garden\, live music\, local art\, and great entertainment.  The fun begins at 12pm and goes til dark. Admission is $10/person (proceeds benefit Rising Appalachian Warriors youth programming).  Limited onsite parking is available for a fee. A free shuttle (15 passenger van) will run every 20 minutes from the Athens County Job and Family Services parking lot on 13.

SUMMARY:Athens Pride Fest Rainbow Finale: Rally and Picnic
DESCRIPTION:The Ohio University LGBT Center\, Southeast Ohio LGBTQ+ Center and the Southeastern Ohio LGBT Coalition have joined in glittery collaboration to host the first ever Pride Rally and the 3rd Annual Athens Pride Picnic. This is a celebration in honor of Pride Month and an opportunity to come together as a rainbow community. All are welcome to participate in Day 3 of Athens Pride Fest! \nThe weekend of events\, especially the Rally and Picnic\, are solidarity events with the National Equality March for Unity and Pride taking place on June 11 in Washington\, DC. To learn more about the national march: http://www.equalitymarch2017.com/ \nThe Rally will take place at 2pm on College Green by the Civil War Monument and is an opportunity for LGBTQA+ SE Ohioans to be loud and proud as we celebrate all things rainbow and queer! We are lining up different speakers to share at the Rally\, if you would like to speak please email lgbt@ohio.edu \nThe picnic will take place following the Pride Rally also on College Green; guesstimated start time for picnic is 3pm. \nThe picnic is potluck style and IS A DRY EVENT (NO ALCOHOL WILL BE SERVED).
